CHATEAU ROL VALENTIN
Unlike the majority of its peers, Rol Valentin doesn’t have a long history, only making its debut in 1994. The founder of Rol Valentin was former European football star, Eric Prissette, but from the legendary 2009 vintage, the estate was sold to the daughter of Leclerc's chief wine buyer, Jean-Luc Roché and her husband, Nicolas Robin.
The vineyards are located in two separate parcels. About 40% of their vines are placed on sandy soils, north of La Gomerie on the way to Cheval Blanc, and the remaining 60% are planted in the cooler clay and limestone soils near Valandraud. The vines are, on average, 43 years old and are planted in 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Although Rol Valentin are relatively new, the quality in recent years here has been excellent.
